Telemedicine or In-Person Appointment?

We’re in a fight to help ‘flatten the curve’. One of the ways we do so is by providing an option for our patients to connect with us through telemedicine, or video visits. We are now The Center for Podiatric Care and Sports Medicine. We are excited for you to see our new, larger office space. We also look forward to you meeting our larger team of foot and ankle specialists face-to-face.

As we continue to practice social distancing, do you know when you should use telemedicine? Are you confident in knowing when your foot condition may be an emergency?

Here are three reasons to skip telemedicine and contact us immediately for an in-person appointment:

  1. Infection: If you notice signs of an infection, including redness, swelling or worsening pain, call us. Infection is dangerous for your overall health. For patients with diabetes, it can result in limb amputations. This applies to other conditions like ingrown toenails or wounds from a recent surgery.

  2. Injuries: If you have injured your foot or ankle and are experiencing pain, please contact us for treatment. Delayed treatment can worsen an injury. Attempting to diagnose your injury at home could also have negative consequences. It’s best to receive a proper diagnosis.

  3. Open wounds: For patients with diabetes, a small scratch can develop into a larger wound known as an ulcer. Many patients with diabetes have neuropathy, which impacts their ability to notice scratches or bruises. If you notice that a wound is worsening or increasing in size, it’s time to pick up the phone. There are ways to treat your wounds at home to stay ahead of complications. We recommend that you do your best to keep your wound clean and covered.

We hope to see you soon at The Center for Podiatric Care and Sports Medicine. Until then, please continue to use our telemedicine option for non-emergency appointments. Connect with us through telemedicine, or video visits. You can also call (212) 980-6487. We are located in Midtown East at 120 E 56th Street, Suite 1150, New York, NY 10022.
